Max came to live with us in July 2005.
Max was in a shelter in Wisconsin. He was on death row and had been reduced to half price. When we first met him, he was completely lifeless. His beautiful black coat was matted, faded and flaking badly. He was very undernourished. He also had coprophagia, which he didn't have anymore.
We were told that Max's former owner had surrendered him because of the high cost of homeowner's insurance.
Max was a 10 year old neutered male AKC registered German Shepherd with an excellent pedigree. His sire was the famous Norbo vom Muehlenschlad, who won the USA Schutzhund III title 10 times.
He had a very stable and polite temperament. He got along well with other dogs. He was a big guy with a very big heart. He LOVED car rides and walks. He would speak for a treat! He was housebroken and tolerated bathing, nail clipping and brushing very well. He also gave kisses.
He was by all means a beautiful German Shepherd. He had a truly wonderful day the day before his death, he even stood in the garden in the evening breeze, sniffing the cool night air, his proud silhouette against the backdrop of the moonlight, regal, dignified and calm.
Max succombed to liver failure following a valiant fight to live. He was dignified even at his death. He died in my arms at home. Resucitation efforts failed. Max was cremated on May 31, 2008. He had died on May 30, had been born on June 30 and died 30 days from his 11th birthday. |
